Chaminade 24, Serra 7--Quarterback Lyle Everett passed for 192 yards and a touchdown, and running back Lee Grassini rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown to lead the Eagles (4-4) in a league opener at Chaminade.
Chaminade overcame a turnover on its opening play from scrimmage and a 7-0 deficit. Serra (4-4) scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Robert Lewis to Marcaid Hatcher.
Chaminade answered with a 13-play, 88-yard drive, capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Everett to wide receiver Eric Zdenek to tie the score, 7-7, late in the first quarter. Everett completed 14 of 24 passes with a touchdown and an interception.
On Serra’s next possession, Eagle linebacker Tyler Theobald recovered a fumble on the Serra 38-yard line. Chaminade took the lead for good eight plays later when Zdenek, playing quarterback, scored on a five-yard keeper midway through the second quarter.
Brian Borreson added a 25-yard field goal for Chaminade on the final play of the first half to extend the lead to 17-7.
Grassini completed the scoring on a one-yard touchdown run with 5:05 to play, sealing the victory.
