Another Way to Save Tide Pools
* Your April 12 article on the vanishing tide pools of Little Corona del Mar failed to address the real problem.
The reason why life is vanishing from the tide pools is that there are far fewer tide pools at Little Corona than there were a decade ago.
This is because sand dredged from Newport Beach is being improperly disposed of, and the tides carry the sand south to Little Corona, where it has filled in more than two-thirds of the original tide pools. If the schools want to save the tide pools at Little Corona, instead of a boycott of the beach, they should put pressure on the city to remove excess sand from the cove and stop dumping it where the currents will carry it there.
