Rockslide Closes Highway Into Yosemite

EL PORTAL, Calif. — A rockslide has closed California 140, one of the main routes into Yosemite National Park, Caltrans said.
The slide occurred in an area separate from a construction project on the highway inside the park. The project has brought daily closures on the road.
The slide occurred early Monday. A small slide also closed the road in January.
“That’s an active slide area, that part of the river canyon,” said Dave Denson, a Caltrans maintenance supervisor. “We have people there looking at the area to make sure it’s safe to clear, and hopefully the closure will be removed as soon as possible.”
Yosemite View Lodge manager Barry Brouillette said that because of the construction project, traffic disruption in the area is normal.
