Anaheim Hits School-Record 104 Points

Anaheim set a school record for points scored in a game in its 104-57 victory over El Modena in a Taco Company Invitational first-round boys’ basketball game Tuesday at Anaheim. Stephen Miller led the Colonists in scoring with 29 points.
The Colonists (1-0) also got 28 points and 11 rebounds from Robert Mendoza and 25 points from Jesus Salcedo in breaking the record of 102 points, set last season against Southern California Christian.
Loara 62, Woodbridge 60 (OT)--Junior Guard Wes Wardrop scored 21 points for host Loara (1-0). Senior Center Dan Melton had 13 rebounds and 12 points for the Saxons. Loara will play Troy in the second round. Woodbridge is 0-1.
Troy 81, Canyon 55--Mike Leslie connected on five three-pointers and had 27 points to lead Troy (1-0) to the first-round victory.
At the Coyote Classic boys’ basketball tournament:
Downey 61, Sunny Hills 49--Justin Frias scored 26 points, including seven three-point shots for Downey (1-0). Eric Herdeman led host Sunny Hills (0-1) with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
In Warrior Hooptime Tournament:
Brethren Christian 104, Southern California Christian 30--Lee Mamaradlo set a school record for points in a game with 50 to lead host Brethren Christian (1-0). Mamaradlo, who also made nine steals, broke the previous record of 44 points set in 1966 by Rich Thomas.
In nonleague boys’ basketball:
St. Michael’s 48, Liberty Christian 42--Victor Alanctara and Matthias Chaney each scored 10 points for St. Michael’s (1-0), and Alanctara shot 80% from the free-throw line. Junior center Paul Francis led Liberty Christian (0-1) with 17 points, scoring 11 during the fourth period.
At the Vernie Ford Classic girls’ basketball tournament:
Aliso Niguel 66, Bolsa Grande 30--Nikia Hastie scored 23 points and Julia Pederson scored 18 along with five rebounds and four assists to lead visiting Aliso Niguel (1-0).
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Servite 5, Savanna 1--Matt Kubota scored two goals, including the first goal of the game for Servite (1-0) in the seventh minute on a drive from 20 yards out. Brian Donnelly scored the game-winning goal for the Friars on a penalty kick six minutes later. Servite goalie James Towers made a save on a penalty kick in the first half to retain Servite’s 2-0 lead. Zaragoza Nesatli scored the only goal for Savanna (0-1).
Sonora 2, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 1--Nick Ross scored off a header with 15 minutes left to play to give Sonora (1-0) the victory. Gonzalo Diaz scored the other goal for the Raiders.
University 3, Laguna Hills 0--Maziar Mafee, Michael Frank and Chris Howard each scored goals to lead visiting University (1-0).
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
El Dorado 1, Brea Olinda 0--Kerri Cavish scored for host El Dorado (1-0) in the 73rd minute with an assist by Robin Bennett. Brea is 0-1.
El Modena 3, Rosary 0--Vicki Bloom scored a goal six minutes into the game, then found the net again 20 minutes later to lead El Modena.
The Vanguards scored all their goals in the first half, Chandice Williams accounting for the second goal of the game between Bloom’s scores.
Loara 2, Troy 0--Betty Medina scored the game-winning goal for Loara (1-0) on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute, and Courtney Ronald scored the Saxons’ other goal with an assist by Chiara Leroy in the 81st minute. Host Troy is 1-1.
Los Alamitos 2, University 1--Freshman Carman Munoz scored the first goal and Lisa Mireles scored the game-winner in the second half to lead visiting Los Alamitos (1-0). Cyndi Ruth scored for University (0-1).
San Clemente 3, Laguna Beach 2--Alison Halpern scored the game winner with 20 minutes remaining in the second half for San Clemente (1-0). Courtney Tammelin and Emily Ernsdorf scored the other two goals for the Tritons.
In nonleague girls’ water polo:
Marina 6, Capistrano Valley 5--Kendra Shanley scored two goals including the game-winner with 1:40 left in as Marina upset Capistrano Valley in the season opener.
Cara Chlebicki, a national youth water polo team member, scored twice for the Vikings (1-0).
The Cougars (0-1) were led by national youth team member Amber Stachowski with four goals.
Woodbridge 8, Trabuco Hills 4--Kara Danduran scored three goals as Woodbridge avenged last year’s opening-game loss to Trabuco Hills (0-1) at Heritage Park. Rochelle Gauthier and Sawako Sonoyama each had two goals for the Warriors (1-0). Heidi Bandisch had three goals for Trabuco Hills.
