An elderly man was struck and killed Thursday on the westbound Ronald Reagan Freeway after he left his disabled car in the carpool lane, authorities said.
Two other people were injured in the accident, which occurred east of Hayvenhurst Avenue just before 1:40 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Richard Perez said.
The man’s wife, Marguerite L. Morris, 80, was at the wheel when the couple’s Volkswagen Jetta broke down, Perez said. The man exited the passenger-side door to investigate and was struck by a Cadillac driven by Hazel Johnson, 42, of North Hollywood, Perez said.
Judson W. Morris, 81, of Lake View Terrace, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Marguerite Morris was in stable condition at Granada Hills Community Hospital, and Johnson was treated at Providence-Holy Cross Medical Center and later released, spokeswomen for the hospitals said.
The crash tied up westbound traffic all afternoon.
