Rosary Advances to Semifinals in Girls’ Water Polo

Rosary held off a fourth-quarter surge by San Diego Coronado to win, 7-6, in a quarterfinal game of the Benson Cup girls’ water polo tournament at Servite Friday.
El Dorado will host Rosary in a semifinal game at 9:50 a.m. today.
Natalie Golda, the Division IV co-player of the year and a member of the U.S. National B team, scored three goals for Rosary. Jennifer McCall and Megan Monahan had two goals each for Rosary (3-0).
In another quarterfinal game:
El Dorado 6, Riverside Arlington 2--Senior Jessica Taylor and Karly Tivenan each scored twice to help the Golden Hawks advance to the semifinals.
In a consolation game:
Laguna Beach 8, Cypress 7 (OT)--Tina Codini scored her third goal of the game 2:30 into overtime for the Artists (2-1), who had four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Laura Case scored three goals and Teresa Codini added two for host Laguna Beach. Cypress is 3-2.
In the Sonora tournament:
Buena Park 13, Santa Ana 11--Maria Lopez scored five goals to lead Santa Ana (1-2). Buena Park is 1-0.
In the Corona Centennial boys’ soccer tournament:
Mater Dei 3, Rancho Cucamonga 0--Ruben Rosales scored twice and Kevin Novak added a goal to lead visiting Mater Dei (2-0-1) in a second-round game.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Edison 2, Foothill 1--Danny Collins scored in the 55th minute and Eric Blaska scored in the 62nd for visiting Edison (1-0). Steve Adams scored for Foothill (1-1) in the 74th minute.
Esperanza 3, Cerritos Gahr 2--Mike O’Donnel scored in the 78th minute to give the Aztecs (2-0) a 3-2 lead. Gahr is 1-1.
Kennedy 1, El Modena 0--David Keleman scored off an assist from Diego Figueroa in the second half for Kennedy (1-1).
St. Margaret’s 1, Chadwick 0--Matt Travis scored on a rebound in the 55th minute and Matt Chapman had four saves for St. Margaret’s (1-1).
Westminster 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Henry Morales scored on a corner kick in the 71st minute to lift visiting Westminster (2-0).
