Market Clerk Hurt in Takeover Robbery

A man thought to be in his late 20s robbed a Ventura market early Tuesday in a takeover-style heist, police said.
The man walked into the Circle K in the 3500 block of Main Street at 1:15 a.m., fired his pistol once into the ceiling and demanded the customers lie on the floor.
He then fired a second round in the direction of the clerk and demanded money from the cash drawer.
The bullet struck a display case and wall, showering the clerk with debris and causing minor injuries, police said.
The man vaulted the counter, took money from the cash drawer and ran from the market, heading south on Mills Road.
The loss was less than $60, because the clerks make frequent safe-deposit drops, police said.
The clerk, Ben Zelenski, was treated at Ventura County Medical Center and released.
