Loyola Marymount Suffers Bad Night

EL PASO, Texas — Shooting only 40% and committing 20 turnovers, Loyola Marymount lost, 84-58, to Texas-El Paso on Wednesday night.
William Smith led a balanced Texas-El Paso scoring attack with 19 points and five rebounds. UTEP (5-2) shot 53% from the field.
Curtis Slaughter scored 20 points to lead Loyola Marymount (1-6), which lost its sixth consecutive game. Slaughter made six of his 10 shots from the field, including three of his four three-point attempts.
Rupert McClendon followed with 14 points and J.J. Sola had 10 points and six rebounds.
Loyola Marymount was still in the game with 8:51 left in the first half and the score tied at 19. But UTEP seized control by holding the Lions scoreless over the next 6:16 to take a 36-26 lead at the half.
Jarvis Mullahon added 16 points for UTEP, including four three-point baskets, and Brandon Wolfram scored all of his 14 points in the second half. Roy Smallwood finished with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds to help the Miners to a 37-26 edge in rebounding.
