DIVISION II
No. 1 N. Hollywood Harvard-Westlake (21-2) vs. No. 2 University (19-3)
3:15 TODAY UC IRVINE
Top-seeded Harvard-Westlake has not been challenged in the playoffs. Sunny Hills gave the Wolverines their toughest match, losing, 13-5. The Wolverines’ losses are to San Marino, a Division IV finalist, but they did defeat Palos Verdes Peninsula, a Division I semifinalist. Harvard-Westlake didn’t have a player reach the round of 16 individuals, but the Wolverines have plenty of depth. Prakash Armritraj, Harvard-Westlake’s No. 1 singles player, is the son of Vijay Armritraj, a former top 10 professional from India. University is trying to win its first section title since 1987. That year, the Trojans defeated Santa Barbara, 11-7. In the semifinals, University squeaked by Thousand Oaks on games, 82-79. The Trojans have been winning on the strength of their freshmen--Aaron Yovan, Henry Mak, Anson Hsu and Jeff Lawrence. But they will probably need a big contribution from senior Greg Biorkman in singles if they are to pull off the upset.
