TOPANGA — A 29-year-old mountain biker collapsed and died in Topanga State Park after complaining of fatigue while biking up a steep hill, said a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Ruben Tabares of West Hollywood was traveling with others on a Thanksgiving Day ride along the Sullivan Fire Road, authorities said.
“He told his companions that he felt tired, and he urged them to ride ahead, which they did,” Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
A short time later, a second group of bikers found Tabares, who had collapsed. He was not breathing and had no pulse, Humphrey said.
The Fire Department was called to the scene about 1:30 p.m., but paramedics had trouble finding Tabares because they did not have precise directions, Humphrey said. Tabares was pronounced dead at the scene about 2 p.m.
