Gruesome Doll Atop ‘Warped Toy’ List

The playthings topping a Hartford, Conn., minister’s annual list of “warped toys” have gone from gross to gruesome. When the Rev. Christopher Rose began compiling the list in 1986, most of the toys he targeted featured fake mucous or vomit. At the top of this year’s list is Curse of Spawn action figure Ryan Hatchet, a disemboweled corpse that comes with a handful of bloody hearts and intestines. Rose wants stronger warnings on toys about their appropriateness for children. Most of the toys he lists already carry labels saying they are appropriate only for children older than 5.
