Marianne Towersey of Newport Beach advanced to the second round of match play in U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Atlanta with a 1-up victory over Julie Goodin, Russellville, Ark. Two other Orange County golfers who reached the match play portion of the tournament were eliminated. Amy Bubon of Yorba Linda lost, 3 and 2, to Alissa Herron of Minneapolis. Sue Ewart of Seal Beach lost on the 20th hole to Pam Harnack of Winnetka, Ill.
