Archdiocese to Buy 950 Acres for Cemetery

LOS ANGELES — The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has entered an agreement to buy about 950 acres for a future cemetery, Cardinal Roger M. Mahony said Thursday.
The land in the Puente Hills belongs to the Rose Hills Foundation, an organization that awards grants to hundreds of charities in the San Gabriel region.
For the archdiocese, whose cemeteries are approaching capacity, the land will allow communities of the San Gabriel Pastoral Region to be served “throughout the next century and beyond,” Mahony said.
Proceeds from the sale will allow the foundation to better support charities.
