Stock trades through Internet brokerages fell 2% in August from July, making it more likely that online transactions will post their first quarterly decline, Credit Suisse First Boston said Monday. Fewer online trades were made in both July and August than in the corresponding months of the second quarter, indicating “a sequential decline in trading volumes” for the third quarter, analyst Jamie Earle said. . . .

Santa Barbara-based Somera Communications Inc., which offers technical services and equipment to major telecommunications companies, filed for a $115-million initial public offering. . . .
Harmonic Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based maker of fiber-optic systems for cable TV networks, said it will split its stock 2 for 1 after its shares soared more than 15-fold in the last year. Harmonic surged $4.50 to close Monday at an all-time high of $140 on Nasdaq. The split will occur about Oct. 14 for holders of record Sept. 27.
