A 22-year-old Oxnard man was in custody at Ventura County Jail on Monday on suspicion of beating and strangling a young woman and dumping her body in a breezeway at a local motel over the weekend, Oxnard police said.
Salvador Sumaran was being held in lieu of $500,000 and is set to be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court on Wednesday, a jail clerk said.
Police say Sumaran severely beat the woman around the head and upper torso, strangled her, then left her nude body at the Ros-eda Motel in Oxnard sometime before Saturday morning. At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, police arrived at the motel after receiving a tip and discovered the body.
The woman’s identity was being withheld pending a fingerprint confirmation, Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said. She was approximately 20 years old, 5 feet 2, 110 pounds, with brown eyes and straight, shoulder-length reddish-brown hair. She wore blue contacts and had a scar reaching from her stomach to her chest. She also had two tattoos, one on her left shoulder that read “Favian” and an unrecognizable left ankle tattoo.
