Lydia Williamson Costa; Somis Homemaker

Lydia Williamson Costa, a homemaker, died Monday at her home. She was 90.

She was born Lydia Williamson on Dec. 15, 1908, in the Philippines. She was the daughter of an American soldier who had married her mother while in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War.

After attending school, she met and later married Francisco Costa. They lived and raised their children in the Philippines.

In 1974, she and her husband moved to Somis to be close to one of their sons. They continued to live in Ventura County until 1995, when they moved back to Cavite City in the Philippines. Lydia Costa returned to Ventura County two months ago, after her husband’s death.

Her son, Leonard Costa, said his mother loved to crochet. She made beautiful bedspreads and many smaller items. She had just completed a bedspread for his family and was working on another one, he said.

In addition to Leonard Costa of Somis, Lydia Costa is survived by son Alan Costa of San Francisco; two sisters, Elma Galeon and Lucy Pepa, both of San Francisco; and a total of 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo, with Father Jim Stehly officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.
