The deadline to file applications to run for City Council has been extended to Wednesday at 5 p.m. On Friday only two candidates had submitted nomination papers. There are two seats available in the November election. Mayor Charles E. Sylvia will not seek reelection, wishing to honor the principle of the city’s term-limits law, approved by voters in 1996. Sylvia has served seven terms on the council since 1975 but is still eligible to run for the seat. Information: (562) 431-3538, Ext. 220.
