Total Renal President-COO Resigns

Beleaguered Total Renal Care Holdings on Thursday said President and Chief Operating Officer David Barry had resigned for personal reasons after less than two months in the job.

Barry’s departure is the latest in a series of management defections during the last year as the No. 2 chain of kidney dialysis centers struggles to rebuild its flagging share price and profit outlook.

Last week the Torrance-based company warned of another quarter of disappointing results after Amgen Inc. said it was raising the price of its drug Epogen, which treats dialysis-related anemia.

Barry was named president and COO on Jan. 25 after more than 19 years experience in the health-care and dialysis industry.

Total Renal’s shares rose 25 cents to close at $3.13 after hitting a 52-week low of $2.06 on the New York Stock Exchange.
