Still No Comedown From the Weekend

There are great trips, and then there are great trips.
How good were the two games in the Bay Area last weekend for the Bruins?
* They shot 54.5% on Saturday, after no Stanford opponent had been better than 39.2% in any of the previous seven games. Only four had broken 40% all season, topping out at the 45.2% by UCLA on Feb. 3 at Pauley Pavilion.
* Since losing to Arizona on Jan. 8, the Cardinal’s only defeat before Saturday, no team had gotten closer than 10 points, and eight of the 13 victims couldn’t stay within 20.
Only four teams had so much as played Stanford in a single-digit game before UCLA: Duke (one point in the season opener at Coaches vs. Cancer in New York), Auburn (nine at the Wooden Classic in Anaheim), Georgia Tech (three in the Delta Airlines Classic in Atlanta), and Arizona in its 68-65 victory over the Cardinal.
* Earl Watson, continuing his impressive recent stretch, made 11 of 18 shots in the two games, four of nine three-pointers, and had 27 points and 21 assists against only seven turnovers.
* Dan Gadzuric, a reserve against Stanford and California, had 32 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks and made 14 of 21 shots. He even made four of five free throws, the unlikeliest statistic of all.
* After falling behind by 19 in the first half Thursday at Cal, the Bruins outscored the Bears, 69-29, in the final 26 minutes 12 seconds. After falling behind by 15 in the first half at Stanford, the Bruins outscored the No. 1 team in the country, 90-74, in the final 38:34.
