The 15th annual Great American Write-In on Saturday at UC Irvine will feature coffee and sweet rolls, blank paper, envelopes and stamps for anyone interested in giving legislators a piece of their mind.
“Even though we live in a society that’s so technologically advanced, I think that a personal letter to a politician still carries some weight,” said Molly Lyon of Women For: Orange County, a volunteer political action organization that sponsors the event.
Nearly 45 groups have paid $50 apiece to rent a stand, present their issues and urge people to lobby politicians.
Among the groups renting tables are AIDS Walk, the American Civil Liberties Union, Junior League of Orange County, Kurdish National Congress, United Nations Assn. and Friends of Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter.
The event will be held in the campus’ University Club from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information: (949) 376-1511 or (949) 581-3938.
