Humphreys, Canyon Are Ideal Marriage
For the fourth consecutive season, there is a new name in charge of the Canyon High softball team.
Same coach. Different name.
Krista Gomez, who last season became the Cowboys’ third coach in as many seasons, became Krista Humphreys last August when she married David Humphreys, the Canyon boys’ basketball coach.
“The kids are starting to get used to it,” she said.
Not only did the former Alemany High and Arizona star get a husband, she landed an assistant.
“It’s working out well,” she said. “After coaching basketball, he likes not having to make any of the tough decisions.”

The Southern Section has denied Amanda Wachsmuth’s appeal to play softball at Palmdale. Wachsmuth, a junior transfer from Paraclete, applied for a hardship waiver.
Wachsmuth had a pitching record of 16-6, drove in 40 runs and batted .329 and .402 to help the Spirits win two Alpha League championships.
