Civil Records Program Funds Are Sought

The Orange County Marshal’s Department will ask county supervisors Tuesday to approve a $796,000 appropriation to complete work on its new civil-records computer program.
Marshal John E. Fuller said the department hopes to have the program running by Jan. 1, but now needs to tap department reserves to finish the project.
The program will allow the public to view and file cases, pay fees and get information and assistance online. Funding comes from fees collected with each court filing.
Fuller said there are no problems with the existing records, as all systems and hardware were Y2K compliant.
He said that the program could save the county up to $150,000 a year by running off the county mainframe and that it will be much easier to use.
