GLENDALE — A 79-year-old Chatsworth woman died Sunday morning when she lost control of her car on the Golden State Freeway and hit a tree, officials said.
Los Angeles County coroner officials did not have the identity of the victim as of late Sunday.
The accident occurred about 8:50 a.m. as the woman was preparing to exit the southbound freeway near Colorado Street and crashed her silver Mercury Marquis, said California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane.
The woman was wearing a seat belt but suffered severe head trauma, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
