SUN VALLEY — An 84-year-old Sun Valley woman was killed in a traffic collision on Sunland Boulevard, Los Angeles police said Monday.
Maria Garcia was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla driven by her daughter, Maria Amaya, 56. Amaya exited a driveway about 8 p.m. Sunday and was crossing Sunland just east of Lehigh Avenue when a Chevrolet El Camino traveling west on Sunland struck the Toyota, said Officer Connie Silber of the LAPD Valley Traffic Division.
Garcia was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she was pronounced dead about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Silber said.
Amaya and Michael Mitchell, the driver of the Chevrolet, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, said authorities.
Mitchell, 22, of Sun Valley, was found to be not at fault for the accident, but he was arrested and booked at the Van Nuys jail on a charge of driving under the influence, Silber said.
