Payton Scores 40 in Win

Gary Payton, who scored 40 points, led an 18-6 surge at the start of the second half by making five of seven shots and the Seattle SuperSonics recorded a 113-103 victory over the Grizzlies on Monday night at Vancouver, Canada. The Grizzlies lost their ninth consecutive despite getting a season-high 31 points from Bryant Reeves.
Detroit 124, Boston 115--Jerry Stackhouse scored 36 points at Boston as the Pistons ended the Celtics’ winning streak at four games.
Utah 87, Chicago 79--Karl Malone scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Jazz won at Chicago. John Stockton had 19 points, six steals and nine assists.
