Camarillo (4-2) got off to a slow start in softball, having lost two of its first three games to Atascadero and Cabrillo in the Cabrillo tournament.
But the same can’t be said of ace Kathryn Nevard, who has 84 strikeouts in 45 innings.
“She’s not getting any [offensive] help,” Coach Miki Mangan said.
Or defensive help. Atascadero and Cabrillo each scored on errors for 1-0 victories.
“But it won’t happen again,” Mangan cautioned.

First-year Coach Brandy Brennan of Agoura was correct when she predicted Coach Cathy Giordano of Hart would take the Chargers “lightly.”
“I did. I really did,” said Giordano, who is Brennan’s aunt.
It didn’t cost Giordano’s team. Hart prevailed, 1-0, on Jocelyn Evans’ run-scoring double in the fourth.
“[Brennan] has done a great job,” said Giordano, the sister of Brennan’s mother. “But I’m a little biased on that.”
