Bear Wanders Through Yards

CASTAIC — A 400-pound bear spooked a group of boys playing in a park and then wandered through several backyards before authorities chased it into the hills Friday evening.
A sheriff’s deputy followed the bear as it meandered through the yards along Bobcat Way and Hipshot Lane, said Terri Beatty, a desk officer at the county Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Station.
“I think it was probably really scared,” she said. State Fish and Game rangers soon joined the chase, eventually driving the bear into the wilderness, Beatty said.
