Manuel Has Colon Repaired

Doctors reattached the colon of Cleveland Indian Manager Charlie Manuel during three hours of surgery Friday and expect him to make a full recovery.
Manuel, 56, is expected to be hospitalized for a week and probably will not be able to rejoin the struggling Indians for at least two weeks. Manuel had eight inches of his colon removed during emergency surgery in February.

Catcher Eddie Perez, a key member of the Atlanta Braves’ bench and most valuable player of last year’s National League championship series, has a torn rotator cuff and is likely out for the season. Perez has been bothered by a sore right shoulder since spring training. . . . The Arizona Diamondbacks put closer Matt Mantei on the 15-day disabled list because of weakness in his right shoulder. . . . The Milwaukee Brewers recalled Jeff D’Amico from triple-A Indianapolis and the right-hander will make his first major league start since September 1997 on Tuesday at Chicago.
