McClure Propels Royal

Justin McClure won the 100-yard backstroke and the 500 freestyle, and swam on winning 200-medley and 400-free relays to help Royal High win the Marmonte League boys’ swimming finals Friday at Rancho Simi Community Park in Simi Valley.
Royal had 484 points, Thousand Oaks 447 and Westlake 423. It was Royal’s first league title since 1982.
McClure clocked 55.25 seconds in the 100 backstroke and 4:43.80in the 500 free.
He anchored the 400-free relay team that included Chris Andelin, Ramiro Saldain and Derek Anderson and timed 3:24.28, and swam the backstroke leg on the medley relay that finished in 1:44.47.
Westlake scored 524 points to win the Marmonte girls’ title for the fourth consecutive year.
Taryn O’Leary sped to victories in the 50 free in 24.76 seconds and the 100 free in 53.86 seconds.
Thousand Oaks finished second with 405 points and Royal was third (368).
BOYS’ TENNIS
Westlake 16, Newbury Park 2--Aaron Bert did not lose a set at No. 1 singles for Westlake (16-0, 12-0) in a Marmonte League finale at North Ranch Country Club.
The No. 3 doubles team of Taylor Chien and Marc Wijen swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, and Westlake won the nine doubles sets.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Thousand Oaks def. Newbury Park, 15-7, 16-14, 13-15, 3-15, 15-13--Brock Redmond had 10 of his 26 kills for the Lancers in the deciding game of a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks (8-7, 6-6).
Danny Raven had 29 kills for Thousand Oaks. John Mayer had 68 assists.
