Hundreds of people from throughout Ventura County turned out Saturday to watch K-9 demonstrations, learn crime prevention techniques and meet the people behind the badges at the ninth annual Police and Fire Block Party.
In addition to food, live music and game booths, visitors saw a bomb robot in action, mounted police and a SWAT team demonstration. Children participated in a bicycle safety rodeo.
“I must have talked to 500 people today,” Ventura Police Lt. John Garner said.
The event included tours of the Police Department at 1425 Dowell Drive, free emergency identification cards and tips on how residents can help police solve crimes. Several home security devices were also for sale.
