U.S. Job Cuts Fall 31.4% From Last Year

The number of planned job cuts by U.S. businesses declined 31.4% in April to 37,291 from 54,399 a year earlier as the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in 30 years, according to employment firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. April’s total of planned dismissals was down 33.1% from March’s 55,783, according to the survey.
