Natural Gas Release Scheduled for Today

Southern California Gas Co. will vent natural gas near Solimar Beach today as part of a pipeline replacement project.
Officials said the release of gas is part of normal operations and is safe for residents and business in the area. The gas is lighter than air and will dissipate quickly, officials said.
The work will be performed between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. about a quarter of a mile northwest of Solimar Beach, north of the Ventura Freeway at the Taylor Ranch property.
The pipeline is being replaced with thicker pipes, which could more easily withstand a major earthquake, said Joe Chow, district manager for the Gas Co. in Oxnard.
Residents with questions can contact the Gas Co. at (800) 427-2200.
