Death of Raul Aguirre

* “Family Mourns, City Reels From ‘Senseless’ Death,” May 7.
Every time I read about the tragedy that occurred May 5 at Hoover High School, I begin to cry. My oldest daughter went to Hoover High only five years ago. Even then, she remembers a strong hostile tone on campus. I feared for her safety.
I am speechless when I try to imagine the pain and frustration that [Raul Aguirre’s] mother and family must be going through. In the midst of their grief, I hope they understand that Raul was a person who will be remembered with pride. His heroic action of selflessly helping somebody else is not common, especially among teens. Other people in his situation would have done nothing (as many onlookers did) or at least run for official help. This youngster did not think twice about helping the helpless.
