Titans’ Johnson Is Pitcher of the Year in Big West

Cal State Fullerton junior Adam Johnson and Nevada senior Joe Inglett, who helped lead their teams to a Big West Conference co-championship, head the all-conference baseball team announced Tuesday.
Johnson was named pitcher of the year and Inglett player of the year. Nevada’s Gary Powers earned conference coach of the year honors.
Johnson (7-3) is Fullerton’s career leader in strikeouts. Johnson leads the conference with 153 strikeouts and ranks second with a 2.53 earned-run average this season.
Inglett leads the conference with a .435 batting average and a .664 slugging percentage.
Fullerton had three other first-team selections, with junior second baseman David Bacani honored for the third consecutive year. Sophomore outfielder Chris Stringfellow and junior relief pitcher Kirk Saarloos also were first-team selections. Four Titans were selected to the second team: freshman utility player Jason Corapci, senior designated hitter Jake Epstein, senior outfielder Steve Woodward and junior pitcher Jon Smith.
The all-star teams were selected by conference coaches.
