The executive committee of a proposed Vietnam War Memorial statue is waiting to hear from the sponsors of a fund-raiser concert held Sunday about how much of the estimated $100,000 collected will go toward the project. Vu Lam, vice president of Union of Vietnamese Student Assns., said his group needs to deduct concert expenses before making a presentation to the memorial committee.
The committee’s fund-raising efforts have been scrutinized by the community since it formed last year. The committee reported $336,726 deposited in a bank account designated for the memorial at its meeting Tuesday evening. Memorial committee member Craig Mandeville said he hopes the concert organizers will be able to bring the total to about $400,000.
The estimated cost of the memorial, designed to include a 10-foot-tall statue on a 5-foot-tall base and information kiosk, is $500,000.
