LANCASTER — A Kern County woman was killed Sunday morning in a head-on collision on a city street, authorities said.
Gwendolyn Volanty, 64, of Rosamond, was driving a 1986 Chrysler Le Baron on 20th Street West, just north of Avenue I, at about 10:25 a.m. when she was hit head-on by a 1993 Nissan Maxima driven by Robert Gonzalez, 33, of Lancaster, said Lt. Richard Lichten of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s station in Lancaster.
The Maxima was traveling on the wrong side of the road, Lichten said.
Volanty was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez was airlifted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center with fractures of his left leg, Lichten said.
The crash is being investigated by the Lancaster station’s traffic detail.
