The Division I-A final features Mira Costa, ranked fourth in the state, and ninth-ranked Mater Dei. Mira Costa is one of the best passing and defensive teams in the section, so the Monarchs will have to be sharp with their ball control to win their first title. The Mustangs have won 15 in a row after suffering their only loss Oct. 14 to Chula Vista Bonita Vista, the top-ranked team in the San Diego section, which also defeated Mater Dei. Junior Breegan Mulligan is the go-to player for a fairly young Mater Dei team, which faces a senior-dominated Mira Costa squad.
