Son’s Shot Kills Dad’s Attacker, Police Say

When Dwayne McDowell Smith, 31, drove to his father’s Jacksonville house, he found his father struggling with a man in the yard, police said. Smith retrieved a gun from his car and shot the man in the shoulder, killing him. “He grabbed me with a chokehold and we scuffled for about three minutes when my son came up and I said, ‘Shoot him, Dwayne,’ and he did,” said James McDowell Smith, 66.
