Internet Site Charts a New Course: Cruises

You can book a hotel, a rental car and an airline ticket online, and now you can book a cruise, until recently the nearly exclusive province of travel agents.
Expedia this month launched a bookable cruise section on its travel Web site. The section also lets travelers see cabin layouts, read cruise reviews and view maps, among other things. Carnival, Celebrity, Crystal, Holland America, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Windstar are bookable through the site, although Expedia has information on 18 cruise lines, representing 113 ships.
Agents are available by phone to help with bookings, including those of the 10 other lines on Expedia’s site that aren’t available for electronic booking.
