LANCASTER — A man suspected of driving under the influence drove his car into a courtyard at Paraclete High School on Thursday afternoon, injuring eight students, authorities said.
The injuries ranged from minor scrapes to broken bones. Several students were rushed to local hospitals. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. as the students sat in the courtyard, said Sgt. John Perez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The courtyard area is next to a parking lot where the driver got into his car and sped forward, striking the students, who were sitting on benches.
“The driver plowed through the area and uprooted about five tables from the concrete,” Perez said.
The man, whose name was not released, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.
