A Santa Ana man was arrested early Wednesday after he allegedly drove while drunk and caused a single-car accident that killed his passenger, police said.
Robert Earl Lark Jr., 25, suffered moderate injuries. He was booked into Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail.
His friend, Lionel Clark, 26, of Santa Ana was pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP Officer Neal Corcoran.
Lark was on the Bristol Street offramp from the southbound San Diego Freeway in Costa Mesa about 2:20 a.m. when “he made an unsafe movement to the left,” Corcoran said.
The car spun out of control and overturned, ejecting Clark, police said. Clark died of injuries sustained when the car landed on him, Corcoran said. Neither man was wearing a seat belt.
Police are investigating the accident.
