Christopher Cox’s Possible Judgeship

* Re “Cox on Bush List for Federal Judgeship,” April 5:
I was interested to read of Rep. Christopher Cox’s likely nomination as a federal judge by the Bush administration. As a constituent, he was always good for a laugh, whether he was extolling the virtues of Star Wars (the weapons “system,” not the movie) or railing against Chinese spies (somewhat ironic, that). I urge the Democrats in Congress to give this nomination all of the scrutiny it so richly deserves and to move forward with the same speed that the Republicans handled President Clinton’s appointees. At that rate, Chris Cox will be donning the robes just as “Dubya” is saying his goodbyes to the White House TV repairman.

* I am surprised your overview of possible candidates for the office now held by Christopher Cox did not include Marilyn Brewer. Marilyn served this area (Newport Beach and Irvine) ably as a state representative in the 70th Assembly District until she was term-limited-out last year. All those who know her are urging her to consider running if a vacancy occurs.
