The Times takes a position-by-position look at the top college prospects and veteran free agents still available:
TOP CORNERBACK PROSPECTS
Nate Clements, Ohio State, 5-11, 207--Has all the tools to become a top-flight NFL player. Great open-field tackler. Sometimes too aggressive, must work on reading and anticipation skills. First rounder.
Jamar Fletcher, Wisconsin, 5-8, 180--Possesses excellent ball-hawking ability. Closes well on the ball and has great hands. Lacks terrific speed but makes up for it with good anticipation. Solid first-round choice.
Fred Smoot, Mississippi State, 5-11, 172--Makes up for lack of size with a big heart. Doesn’t like to get involved in the run defense. Exceptional reflexes and body control. Should go in first round.
Will Allen, Syracuse, 5-10, 198--Can match up one-on-one with just about anyone because of his speed. Great raw prospect that will need a lot of coaching.
Ken Lucas, Mississippi, 6-0, 200--Big, physical player with a good radar for the ball. Is a playmaker despite subpar footwork and technique. Late second-round pick.
BEST OF REST
Willie Middlebrooks, Minnesota, 6-1, 195--Agile and physical. Andre Dyson, Utah, 5-10, 175--Brother of Titan WR Kevin. Tay Cody, Florida State, 5-9, 173--Tiny playmaker. Jimmy Williams, Vanderbilt, 5-11, 190--Talented, difficult. William Peterson, Western Illinois, 6-1, 195--Great ability, bad attitude.
SLEEPERS
Ligarius Jennings, Tennessee State, 5-10, 195--Terrific cover skills. Michael Stone, Memphis, 5-11, 188--Natural skills need polish.
VETERAN FREE AGENTS
