Kendall Shoots 10-Over 82, but It’s Enough to Win

David Kendall, a junior at Woodbridge High, shot a 10-over 82 Wednesday in the second round at Tijeras Creek, but wound up winning by one shot over Kyle Warren of Los Alamitos in the Junior Amateur Golf Scholars 2001 Spring Junior Tournament.
Kendall began the second round with a seven-stroke lead after shooting an opening-round 69 on Tuesday. Warren, a freshman, made three birdies on the back nine and shot 76 for the second consecutive day.
WATER POLO
Garrett Marquis of Santa Margarita High School signed a letter of intent to play water polo for USC, his father Gary said.
Marquis, a two-meter player, was the Serra League’s most valuable player and was a Southern Section Division I second-team member.
TRACK AND FIELD
Vanguard announced the signing of Olivia Fick of Grand Island (N.Y.) High.
Fick was a three-time athlete of the year for Grand High’s track team, competing in the 400 and 800-meter races, the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, the high jump, long jump and shotput.
Fick also will play soccer for Vanguard.
BASKETBALL
Kelsi Sousa has signed with North Carolina Greensboro to play women’s basketball. Sousa, a guard at Woodbridge, averaged 17.2 points and was a second-team Times Orange County selection.
