Edwards Closes Woodbridge Theater

Edwards Theatres Circuit Inc., in bankruptcy reorganization, has shuttered the Woodbridge movie theater in Irvine.
The Newport Beach-based exhibitor had said earlier it was dropping the lease on that aging movie house, which opened in 1980, along with the lease on the Lido Cinema in Newport Beach. The fate of the Lido, which has remained open, is still unclear, spokeswoman Ann Julsen said.
Edwards has been shedding its under-performing theaters since it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization last August. The five-screen Woodbridge theater, which showed older movies for lower prices, closed Jan. 4.
Edwards is not currently planning to close any other theaters, Julsen said.
