UCLA sophomore left-hander Mike Kunes, an All-City Section pitcher from Chatsworth High, earned his first save of the season Friday in an 8-3 victory over Tulane.
Kunes, who has a 1.08 earned-run average in seven appearances, pitched three scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two.

Third baseman Kevin Howard of Miami (12-3) hit his second home run of the season and his first since opening weekend in a 14-0 victory over Albany.
Howard, a sophomore from Westlake High who was the college freshman of the year, had three hits and four runs batted in.

Third baseman Jeff Bannon of UC Santa Barbara, a senior from Camarillo High, had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs in the Gauchos’ 10-4 victory Friday over Loyola Marymount.
Robert Hirsch of Loyola Marymount, formerly of Crespi, is batting .340 in 14 games. His batting average is second on the team and his 11 RBIs are tied for first.
