Breen’s Home Run Powers Santa Ana Past Cypress

Pat Breen homered to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning, giving Santa Ana a 9-8 victory over Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Friday at Santa Ana.
The Dons (11-3, 1-1) tied the score with three runs in the ninth, when Mikela Olsen doubled in two and later scored the tying run on a passed ball.
Cypress fell to 11-4, 1-1.
In other conference games:
Orange Coast 8, Fullerton 7--Scott Beerer had three hits and Chris Sinner, Brian Murphy and Jake Garcia two hits apiece as host Orange Coast (11-3, 1-1) held off a ninth-inning rally by Fullerton (7-6, 1-1).
Saddleback 10, Irvine Valley 1--Josue Lopez’s three-run homer in the fifth inning gave visiting Saddleback (13-2, 2-0) a 7-0 lead. Lopez drove in four runs.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Cypress 7, Irvine Valley 4--Melissa Ortiz had two hits, two RBIs and a run for Cypress (1-4, 1-1).
Fullerton 5, Golden West 2--Three first-inning runs were enough for the visiting Hornets (13-4-1, 1-0). Loraine Pinedo and Kristin Shea had two hits each.
Riverside 3, Orange Coast 2--Rachael Bermudez pitched a one-hitter and struck out 15 for visiting Riverside (8-4, 1-0).
Orange Coast (5-4-1, 0-2) trailed in the sixth inning, 3-0, before Jennifer Jensen collected the Pirates’ only hit to drive in Kim Guillen and Meredith Miles.
Santa Ana 3, Saddleback 1--Renee Hietbrink (4-1) pitched a three-hitter for host Santa Ana.
Ana Velazquez and Wendi Kralich had two hits each for the Dons (9-2, 3-0).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Irvine Valley 0--Jeff Taylor had 12 kills for the Pirates (8-0, 3-0), who won, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15. Irvine Valley is 3-2, 3-1.
