Schumacher Wins Again; Track Marshal Is Killed

MELBOURNE, Australia — World champion Michael Schumacher led from start to finish to win his fifth consecutive Formula One race in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix today.
A track marshal was killed during a fifth-lap crash between Jacques Villeneuve and Ralf Schumacher.
The man’s identity was not immediately disclosed.
Michael Schumacher, who started from the pole position, continued Ferrari’s dominance by holding off McLaren’s David Coulthard by 1.7 seconds. His average speed was 115.718 mph.
In the accident, Villeneuve’s BAR Honda rode up the back of the Ralf Schumacher’s Williams. Villeneuve’s car went into the air, hit the top of the fence and nearly catapulted over into spectators.
