Not many people gave the Wildcats a chance to do much in the playoffs, but Swindle led his team to an upset of top-seeded La Verne Bonita in the semifinals and a scoreless tie with second-seeded Santa Barbara in the Division III final. Brea set a school record with 19 shutouts and reached its first section final since 1987, when Swindle was a Wildcat.
