Foothill High, the top-ranked team in Orange County, scored 14 runs in the second inning to overpower Reno (Nev.) Galena, 21-0, in the first round of the Ramada Express Softball Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz.
The game ended after the fourth inning because of the tournament’s 10-run mercy rule.
Senior pitcher Courtney Fossatti faced only 13 batters, giving up two hits and striking out nine for Foothill (6-0).
Fossatti also hit a three-run homer in the third inning. Caitlin Lowe was four for four with three singles and a double for Foothill, which plays New Mexico Farmington today.
